Darius Rucker may not be releasing music ‘for the first time,’ but he’s taking that lesson to heart as he encourages his listeners to try something new with his brand new radio single.

The foot-stomping number builds up the positive message Rucker envisioned for the tune, giving the song a campy feel without losing the heart of the matter. After feeling inspired by the phrase, ‘When was the last time you did something for the first time,’ a lightbulb flickered in Rucker’s brain and he knew he and his co-writers were on to something meaningful yet fun.

“As a songwriter, sometimes the smallest idea can elicit a feeling and then you have this daunting task of trying to relay that emotion and energy into a three-minute song,” Rucker revealed about the song. “When we wrote ‘For The First Time,’ we each had to dig deep for that moment – for me it was ‘you say you’ve never danced to a dashboard singin’ REM under summer stars.’ After that it was all over.”

Even the rocky tones of the electric guitar slinging with a soulful vibe attached to it, Rucker really grooves along with the theme he’s portraying while not losing sight of leaving a smile on all of his fans’ faces.

“For the First Time” marks the follow-up single to Rucker’s previous No. 1 hit, “If I Told You.” The new track will be featured on his forthcoming fifth album, which will be produced by hitmaker Ross Copperman and doesn’t hold a title at this time.

Fans can listen to “For the First Time” now and catch Darius Rucker performing the song live as he travels on tour throughout the summer season.
