It’s an exciting time to be Ryan Hurd. The acclaimed songwriter is ready to step out into the spotlight on his own with his debut single, “We Do Us.”

“Songwriting will always be a huge part of who I am,” says Hurd. “I am excited to follow the full life of the songs I’ve written. I’m ready to perform and connect with people out on the road and grow as an artist.”

Hurd’s “We Do Us” was included in Spotify’s “New Music Friday” playlist and has been featured in Vevo’s dscvr program. The program, which has featured acts like Sam Smith, Hozier and Tove Lo, showcases musicians through exclusive performances, short films and playlists.

The single is just a glimpse into Hurd’s upcoming album, which he recently told Sounds Like Nashville is a work in progress.

“I have it halfway mapped out and we can go any direction with the other half. I’m working with Aaron Eshuis, who’s going to produce it and some other people to work on some specific tracks. Matt Dragstrem and busbee are going to be a part of it. All of those people are incredible producers and writers and techs in town. So it’s kind of fun to be able to conceptualize it and say ‘this can be anything that I want. I can work with anyone that I want.’ I’ve never felt more free creatively, I suppose.  This is a really cool moment.”

Fans unfamiliar with the Michigan native himself are likely familiar with his numerous songs recorded by other country artists on the radio airwaves. Hurd has penned songs for Blake Shelton (GRAMMY & CMA-nominated “Lonely Tonight”), Tim McGraw (“Last Turn Home”), Dierks Bentley (“I’ll Be The Moon”), Jake Owen (“Sure Fire Feeling”), Maren Morris (“I Wish I Was”) and Florida George Line (“Island”), among others.
