Little Big Town’s video for their single, “Happy People,” is bound to brighten your day no matter what the circumstances. Close-up shots of “happy people” showing off their beautiful smiles and an elderly couple looking happy in love are set against a simple background, making for a tender-hearted video that the group put extensive thought into.

“We had lots of brainstorming sessions of about the concept of the ‘Happy People’ video,” LBT’s Karen Fairchild told Sounds Like Nashville and other media aboard the Carnival Liberty ahead of their Carnival Live performance. “How do you capture joy and how do you create joy, how do you define what makes someone happy.”

The foursome was looking for authentic reactions from individuals after they would receive a kind compliment and wanted those sweet moments to drive the video. “With Becky Fluke and Reid Long [the video directors], we let that be the story of the video and then they came up with the concept of the portrait-style, up against the same background, but everyone is different and unique and what makes them happy,” explained Fairchild.

But one of the most memorable people featured is the adorable Bentley, who the group was drawn to the moment they heard his heartwarming words and felt it captured what they were aiming for. ‘That’s what also kicked off the video was that sweet little boy Bentley, “ Fairchild gushes. “He talked about fishin’ with his daddy was the thing that made him happy and he has the sweetest little Southern accent.”

The quartet also decided to include their own children in the video, who finally got their moment to shine after hilariously asking their parents to be featured in a project. “Our kids bring us some much joy and they’re crazy about like dancing and being silly so it was finally their moment. They wondered why they weren’t cast in the ‘Better Man’ video, they wanted us to reshoot it. We were like ‘this is our band, get your own band,’ she joked. “So the ‘Happy People’ video was finally like celebrating them.”

And fans who loved the video may get to see more of it. Fairchild reveals that they may share some of the dialogue not included in the video of them asking people questions about what brings them joy and happiness in life.

“Happy People” is the second single off Little Big Town’s 2017 album, The Breaker.
