Loretta Lynn must have caught a hit off of friend and fellow country legend Willie Nelson when she decided to try smoking marijuana at the rightful age of 84.

The country sensation got real candid about her experience (or lack thereof) with weed with People Magazine while chatting away about her family Christmas traditions and the status on where her career is headed in the near future. Lynn was rather blunt, or something along those lines, about her first time and how it was her medical need to roll up recently.

“I got glaucoma and they gave me one of these cigarettes,” she said. “I took one smoke off of it and it hit me right here in the chest. I like to have died! Glaucoma is just going to have to take over.”

Speaking about her short time with cannabis and her long-lasting friendship with Nelson, Lynn mentioned how close they’ve become over the years they’ve known each other in the industry. The pair have always remained great colleagues of one another, even to the point of recording a duet, “Lay Me Down,” on her most recent project, Full Circle.

“He’s one of the greatest people in the whole world,” Lynn revealed about Nelson. “I know he smokes pot, but my goodness, there’s a lot people doing a lot worse than smoking pot!”

Lynn proves that she’s still going strong with her career and won’t rest a minute with the release of her new Christmas album, White Christmas Blue, which is available for purchase now.
