Luke Bryan performed his No. 1 song, “What She Wants Tonight” on the 2020 CMT Awards on Wednesday, October 21. This year’s performances took place from various locations around Middle Tennessee, and Bryan performed from The Barn at Sycamore Farms in Arrington, TN. Bryan was introduced by his fellow American Idol host Katy Perry, who joked that when she found out she was introducing a fellow host, she assumed they meant Lionel Richie.

The beginning of the performance saw Bryan singing the first verse while walking across a bridge that was lit up with geometric lights. A wide camera angle then revealed that he had just walked onto an island on lake where his band was already playing. Bryan then sang the rest of the song while standing on a brick pathway on the island while his band members backed him up behind him. While he was singing, colored dancing lights and fog created an even more dramatic scene.

Bryan went into the performance already a winner, as he took home the trophy for Male Video of the Year for his “One Margarita” video, which was filmed in Mexico. Bryan was nominated alongside Jason Aldean, Luke Combs, Morgan Wallen, Sam Hunt and Thomas Rhett.

The 2020 CMT Music Awards air Wednesday, October 21st at 8:00PM ET/7:00PM CT on CMT, MTV, MTV2, Logo, Paramount Network, Pop and TV Land.
