“He’s had an amazing career and the fact that at 80 years old he’s out there touring and still sounds great, plays great, looks great," said Bryan.

This year, Charlie Daniels will celebrate his 80th birthday. To mark the momentous year, Daniels has invited several of his artist friends to play at his Birthday Volunteer Jam including Chris Stapleton, Kid Rock, Larry the Cable GuyTravis Tritt and Luke Bryan. For Bryan, the opportunity to play a show with the iconic entertainer is a dream come true.

“You just know that that guy is still onstage because he loves music,” Bryan told Sounds Like Nashville and other reporters recently. “He loves that role of being onstage and he’s been such an iconic figure for so many years. I would say ‘Devil Went Down to Georgia’ may be one of the top three or four most biggest country songs of all time, really, when you think about how many times you really hear that song in football stadiums. You just don’t get any bigger than that.”

The career that Daniels has had is one that Bryan hopes to emulate in some way with his own livelihood.

“He’s had an amazing career and the fact that at 80 years old he’s out there touring and still sounds great, plays great, looks great. He’s looked like Charlie Daniels for… I hope I can look like me 40 years! I don’t think be able to hold up as good as he has,” joked Bryan. “I’m honored to be working with him. And you know, I respect him from the way he has never backed down from who he is as a Christian man, and as a supporter of being an American and supporting the troops. I mean, he’s dedicated a huge portion of his life to uplifting what America’s about. He’s a lot of things to draw inspiration from and for him to ask me to be a part of it is a huge honor.”

Charlie Daniels’ 80th Birthday Volunteer Jam will take place on November 30 at Bridgestone Arena. A portion of the proceeds from the Birthday Volunteer Jam will go to The Journey Home Project, a 501 (c)(3) non-profit founding by Daniels and his manager David Corlew. The organization strives to help Veterans of the United States Armed Forces.
