Luke Bryan Opens Up About Balancing His Career and Family

With another top 10 (and still rising) hit on his hands, a slot on Tim McGraw’s “Emotional Traffic” tour and his first headlining tour approaching this fall, Luke Bryan’s career is hotter than ever. With his new found super-stardom, the “Country Girl (Shake It For Me)” singer says he’s trying to find balance between career and family life.

“Obviously, you want to be home with the kids and you have to be out on the road,” Luke tells The Charleston Gazette. “When you’re home, you’re always trying to catch up. It feels like a double life.”

“You just hope you can get home,” he adds.

Luke may be a country star when he’s out on tour, but at home, he’s a husband and a father. He and his wife Caroline have two boys, Thomas Boyer “Bo”, 3, and Tatum Christopher, 11 months.

Things aren’t going to slow down for Luke anytime soon. His highly anticipated third studio album, tailgates & tanlines, hits stores August 9. Luke, who co-wrote eight of the album’s 13 tracks, says the lead single is just a taste of what the album offers.

“We’ve got some hardcore country stuff on there and some poppier sounding stuff.”

As for the title, tailgates & tanlines, it didn’t just come from one song.

“There’s no ‘Tailgates and Tanlines’ song,” he explains. “We got songs touching on that subject matter. There’s ‘Too Damn Young,’ which talks a little about seeing some tan lines, and we have a song called ‘Tailgate Blues.’ We got the title from the songs.”

Overall, Luke says he’s proud of this project.

“I think the new album is showing more growth as an artist.”
