Luke Bryan has won plenty of awards over his hit-making country career, but he’s got a trophy that he didn’t win on his mind this week. Bryan is the temporary owner of college-football legend Tim Tebow’s 2007 Heisman Trophy, and he hopes it’ll bring his favorite team some good luck.

Here’s the backstory. Last year Tebow and the Bryan family both attended a fundraiser but on by the Brett Boyer Foundation — a charity dedicated to celebrating children with Down syndrome and raising awareness about congenital heart defects — where Tebow put his Heisman up for auction. The award is given each year to the most outstanding player of the NCAA football season, carrying with it quite a bit of mystique for fans, and it turns out Bryan’s wife Caroline won the auction. Now she and Luke get to keep the trophy for six months — but the fun part comes in the timing.

The famous pals’ favorite teams will do battle this weekend, when Tebow’s University of Florida Gators take on Bryan’s University of Georgia Bulldogs, and Bryan seems to think the fact that Tebow waited until now to drop the trophy off has a deeper meaning.

“He delivered it last week — the week before the Georgia/Florida game,” Bryan says in a spirited Instagram post. “I feel it was an effort to bring bad mojo into my household.”

Two can play at that game, though, and the superstar is already trying to turn the voodoo tables. He’s given the trophy a new look by keeping it wrapped in a Georgia sweatshirt, and apparently has more plans to tip the scales of football fate.

“I’ve got this all week, to put a curse on the Florida Gators,” Bryan says.

Beyond the friendly rivalry, Bryan and Tebow do have other intentions for the Heisman Trophy — namely to highlight their favorite charities, as fans tune in on social media to keep track of the fun.
