Luke Combs brought out his country-rock side for a performance of “Cold As You at the CMA Awards on Wednesday, November 11.

Before Combs started singing, red lights illuminating the stage and a musical intro complete with banjo, electric guitar and drums set the stage for the high-powered break-up song. Combs walked around the stage as he sang the tune, which describes the perfect country bar and compares a cold beer to the cold behavior of his ex. While he sang, Combs’ wife, Nicole, danced along at her table.

The song appears as one of the new tracks on Combs’ deluxe record What You See Ain’t Always What You Get, released October 23.

“’Cold As You,’ I wrote this song with two of the same guys that I wrote ‘Beer Never Broke My Heart’ with, I think it’s very similar. The idea was actually Shane Minor’s idea, and he’s a really awesome guy and was willing to let me and Jonathan (Singleton) and Randy (Montana) kind of take the little bit of a start that he had and run with it. And I’m super pumped to have another kickass song with two of my favorite guys and one of my new buddies in Shane Minor.”

Co-hosted by Darius Rucker and Reba McEntire, the 54th Annual CMA Awards aired live on ABC from Nashville’s Music City Center on November 11.
