Luke Combs lit up downtown Nashville with his performance of “Cold As You” at the 2021 CMT Awards.

The “undefeated” singer, as described by Good Morning America host Michael Strahan who introduced him, took to outdoor theatre Assembly Hall on the rooftop of a downtown Nashville building. Standing amongst a sleek set with multi-colored neon lights, Combs was in fine form on the bold track that follows a man-done-wrong turning to a honky tonk for sanctuary from a broken heart.

They got “Whiskey River” on a jukebox/A honky tonk sawdust dance floor/A neon, five o’clock, broke clock/And plenty damn many when you want one more/Of this broke heart fool on an old bar stool/Drinkin’ beer almost as cold as you,” he croons in the gritty country track with solid vocals to match.

Combs recently scored his 11th Number One single with “Forever After All,” a touching ode to his wife Nicole. The music video for the track features clips from the couple’s beachside wedding day. The North Carolina native will keep things going with a number of performances this summer, including a stop at the Faster Horses Festival in July.

Other performances from country music’s only fan-voted awards show include Chris Stapleton, Carrie Underwood, Kane Brown, Lauren Alaina and more.

The 2021 CMT Awards, hosted by Kane Brown and Kelsea Ballerini, will air live on Wednesday, June 9 at 8 p.m. ET on CMT, MTV, MTV2, Logo, Paramount Network and TV Land. Voting is open for Video of the Year from now through Wednesday, June 9. Check out a full list of the nominees here.
