Luke Combs’ Proposal To His Fiancée Did Not Go As Planned

This wasn't quite what he had in mind, but it worked out in the end.

Luke Combs and his fiancée Nicole recently joined Shawn Johnson East and Andrew East for an episode of their podcast, Couple Things. During the interview, Luke and Nicole shared their engagement story for the very first time. While the proposal did end in a ‘yes’ from Nicole, it did not go the way Luke had originally planned.

Luke explains that he proposed on the day they moved from their apartment to their new house in November 2018. In the original plan, he was going to put the ring on the collar of one of their cats at the new house, and when Nicole saw it, he’d pop the question. While movers were moving their things to the new place, they stopped by Luke’s manager’s house, and on the way, the cats put a halt on the day’s plans.

“The cats do not travel well,” Luke says. “Her cat peed in the crate and my cat threw up in the crate, so we spent a good part of the morning giving them baths and cleaning them.”

After dealing with the mess, the couple finally made it to their new house, only to find it in complete disarray from moving. To make matters more stressful, Nicole’s cat went to the bathroom in its crate once again, and the couple had to deal with all of this while Nicole was trying to prepare for her longer commute to work the next morning. It was at that point that Luke gave up on the original plan.

“I pretty much just told her what I was going to do,” Luke says.

Nicole then chimed in, sharing her side of the story.

“He was like, ‘Okay, I got these new collars with the new address on them, and oh, I also got you this,” she says. “And then he pulls [the ring] out and gets down on one knee, does the whole thing. I black out. I don’t remember this.”

Nicole says that she was completely caught off guard by the question, considering the stressful day they had just gone through. She was so thrown off that the first thing she remembers saying after he popped the question was, “My ears are hot.”

“That’s what she said. My ears are hot,” says Luke.

Shortly after the proposal, Luke shared the news with fans by posting a photo on Instagram of the two of them vacationing in Hawaii. Luke recently shared that they have set a date for the wedding, and so far, the planning has not been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.
