The end of a relationship can mark a difficult time of change for any person. Having to go tho all the same local hangouts can be difficult as they bring up memories of a former lover. Maddie & Tae know exactly what it feels like to not even recognize your hometown anymore and struggle with the reality of moving on in their new song, “Tourist in this Town.”

“It’s all about how you feel like a tourist in your own town because you have to avoid the places you and your ex went to,” the duo’s Maddie Marlow told CMT during a recent stop in Chicago. “You have to relearn it. Because you don’t want to run into him, but you do want to run into him. You know?”

The song, which the girls wrote with Barry Dean and Jimmy Robbins, sings of a place Taylor Dye found herself at that time.

“I was right in that ’Tourist in This Town’ phase,” she shared. Added Marlow, “I was too because when your best friend has an ex, you just want to punch him in the face.”

The song is the latest from the duo, who recently earned a nomination for Duo of the Year at the 2019 ACM Awards. They recently debuted two other tracks, “Die From A Broken Heart” and “Friends Don’t,” which will likely appear on their upcoming studio album.
