Maren Morris teams up with rock hit maker John Mayer to tribute the golden era of music videos in a new clip for “Last Train Home,” and it fulfills a lifelong dream for Morris.

Featuring an ’80s rock vibe and a broken-hearted theme, the moody new anthem is steeped in throwback style, with bluesy guitar solos and a synth-pop rhythm. Morris appears as a torchy harmony singer toward the song’s end – and she also shows up in the track’s video, which matches the song’s ‘80s feel in all its grainy, denim-and-leather glory.

Morris took to social media to celebrate the video’s release, noting that portraying an infamous “video girl” – the beautiful female stars often found in clips from the era – feels like a special achievement.

“Video girl dream fulfilled,” she posted alongside a clip. “Thank you @JohnMayer for having me on ‘Last Train Home.’ now y’all go dance.”

“Last Train Home” appears on Mayer’s upcoming Sob Rock album, which is out July 16. Maren Morris will appear at the upcoming 2021 CMT Music Awards, where she heads into the June 9 show tied for the most nominations with four nods. Her current single is the steamy “Chasing After You” duet with husband Ryan Hurd.
