Maren Morris got soulful with her performance of “Girl” at the 2019 CMA Awards.

The rising superstar kicked off the performance with cinematic a cappella introducing the first verse before welcoming in the electric guitar that anchors the song. Her voice as strong as the message of the song, Morris offered a plaintive performance. The stage adorned with a flower garden of soft white and pink roses and a mirror behind her added a dramatic effect the setting. Morris allowed her voice to carry the lyrics, the performance concluding with sparks pouring down over her.

“Girl” became Morris’ third No. 1 hit when it ascended to the top of the Billboard Country Airplay chart in July 2019. Morris helped open the 2019 CMA Awards by performing Tammy Wynette’s hit “Your Good Girl’s Gonna Go Bad” with her Highwomen cohorts Brandi Carlile, Amanda Shires and Natalie Hemby. They all remained on stage to perform a handful of other hits including Martina McBride’s “Independence Day” and “Born to Fly” by Sara Evans with the two singers, along with Carrie Underwood, Dolly Parton, Reba McEntire and many other women.

Morris is the most nominated artist of the night, appearing in such categories as Female Vocalist of the Year and Album of the Year for Girl. S
