Maren Morris is Forever Thankful for the Texas Country Music Scene

You can take the girl out of Texas, but you can't take Texas out of the girl when it comes to Morris' country sound.

Maren Morris will always stay true to her roots by being a Texas girl at heart. While she may call Nashville her new home, she remains loyal to the state that brought her up and put her on the map.

As she’s been developing her sound throughout her time in the music industry, Morris thanks her native Texas for influencing her music with a Southwest vibe. Over time, she’s realized that distance just makes the heart grow fonder and that can be said of her devoted love to Texas country.

“I think I appreciate it more now being slightly removed from the Texas music scene,” she explained recently. “I was in it for over 10 years, I feel like I was so fortunate to be brought up in a state where they had a music scene, because a lot of my friends here in Nashville that I write with had to move here just to find one, and to have come from one that was so strong and steadfast in its own thing, I feel really lucky because it was the best upbringing. I got to basically grow up in a scene where everyone was really supportive and I could grow and then it just made the transition to moving to Nashville a lot easier because I already had some experience under my belt.”

While the music scenes from Texas to Nashville have multiple similarities and differences, Morris still keeps hold of the Texas twang in her hits from Hero, like “My Church” and her latest single, “80’s Mercedes.”

Fans add Hero to their digital music libraries now.
