Maren Morris just proved the power of a killer collaboration crossover now that her hit with Zedd and Grey called “The Middle” just went No. 1 on the pop radio charts.

While Morris may be getting accustomed to the No. 1 lifestyle after reaching the top spot on the country countdown for her feature on Thomas Rhett’s “Craving You” and her very own “I Could Use a Love Song,” this victory for her career on the Billboard Pop Songs Airplay Chart tastes even sweeter to know that the pop industry accepted her brief introduction to the genre.

It didn’t take long for Morris and the crew to get to the No. 1 slot as they only released the song out to fans less than three months ago. Thanks to its electronic beats and its happy sounds sprinkled all through the Zedd production, it melted just fine into the Top 40 pot and became just another huge moment in Morris’ career.

Some fans of Morris may get weary about her dedication to country as she approaches her sophomore album now that she’s collaborated with Zedd and other mainstream artists. Nevertheless, she reassures everyone that country will always remain her home despite using outward sources to influence to sound of her upcoming projects.

“I don’t think it was too much of a stretch to be a part of this song as a feature and I love Zedd and you just listen to ten seconds of the song and you’re like, ‘This is a bop.’ You want to dance. I don’t ever try to be like, ‘Let’s write a pop song today.’ I just kinda let the chips fall and sometimes it feels more pop and sometimes it’s like straight up traditional country songs, sometimes it’s R&B,” Morris said of the song to Sounds Like Nashville and others at a previous event.

Currently, Morris is enjoying her honeymoon after tying the knot to Ryan Hurd before heading back to the states to gear up for her opening set on Niall Horan’s Flicker World Tour later this summer.
