Maren Morris and Ryan Hurd Bring the Romance With ‘Chasing After You’ to 2021 ACM Awards

Country stars and married couple Maren Morris and Ryan Hurd brought their songwriting story full circle with a performance of “Chasing After You” on the 2021 ACM Awards.
The couple brought the romantic duet to life from the Ryman Auditorium, setting the tone on an atmospheric stage adorned with feathers and dim lighting. Their chemistry could be felt through the screen as the husband-and-wife pair traded gentle caresses and let their voices do the talking as they sang, “Every time, every time you say we’re done / You come back to the love you werе running from / Don’t know why, don’t know why I let you but I do / Guess I love chasing aftеr you.” The couple kept their eyes locked on one another and swayed together while delivering the love story, ending the performance with a sweet kiss that was met with cheers from the audience.
Morris and Hurd first met as songwriters and over time, their relationship developed into something much deeper. The two eventually wed and welcomed a baby boy named Hayes together in March 2020. Though they’ve continued writing together, “Chasing After You” marks their first-ever duet. The track has been famous around Music Row for years, and the couple decided to update it before its recent release.
“We recorded a different version of it [initially], but we wanted one that was a little more current and something that fit our sound a little bit better now. And it’s gone through a couple of versions, it really has,” Hurd shared in a recent interview on Today’s Country Radio with Kelleigh Bannen on Apple Music Country. “I remember we were on a beach in the Cayman Islands, I think it was the first trip we ever took together, and Maren was like, ‘I want to sing on that song with you.’ So this is years in the making.”
On top of their performance, Morris is also a nominee at tonight’s celebration. She earned six nominations, including Female Artist of the Year and Single of the Year.
The 2021 ACM Awards, hosted by Keith Urban and Mickey Guyton, broadcast live on Sunday, April 18 (8:00-11:00 PM, live ET/delayed PT) on the CBS Television Network and will be available to stream live and on demand on Paramount+.
