Maren Morris and Ryan Hurd will appear on Today’s Country Radio with Kelleigh Bannen tomorrow (Feb. 12) to chat about their new duet, “Chasing After You,” but Morris also shared details about her upcoming third album. The singer, who cancelled her tour again this year due to the ongoing pandemic, says that being off the road has provided her freedom to write songs on her own schedule. She also revealed that she and Hurd will be taking off on a “writing, recording” trip soon, where she will begin to assemble to project.
“I’m actually about to start recording,” she shared. “Ryan and I are about to go on a big, writing, recording trip together. I’ve never gotten away to write — this is the first time we’re going away and trying to do something creative, but we’re bringing our baby with us and that’s kind of it.
“It’s kind of weird to not have a tour for the year, because that’s what we base our entire year around,” she continued. “So, it’s scary and a little liberating to not have that to carve around, but it’s also been nice songwriting-wise because it’s like, there’s literally nothing you’re writing too. You just have like no timeline.”
Hurd, of course, has had a front row seat and has most likely participated in the creation of the new album. And although he has witnessed Morris’ journey first hand for years, he’s still in awe and humbled by his wife’s genuine talent.
“Obviously, we’re all excited about her next album, whenever that is,” said Hurd. “I’m the only one who’s heard all the songs, so I’m proud of that. I am always amazed at how good Maren is. She’s my favorite songwriter, and honestly, has just a world-class voice. It is very humbling to be a songwriter and to think that some days you’re really good and then come home and realize like, ‘Damn, that was nowhere near as good as what she did today.’ So, I’m excited to watch her get to formulate and put together her new record.”
The unnamed third album will follow her first two projects, HERO and GIRL.
