Martina McBride is sharing a recipe for a healthy and delicious side dish just in time for Thanksgiving. The recipe is for her Sautéed Spinach, which is a simple dish that can be prepared in just 10 minutes and serve four people. The only ingredients required are olive oil, garlic cloves, fresh baby spinach and lemon juice.

McBride is sharing the recipe as part of the Comfort & Joy campaign with the American Red Cross, which encourages people to donate blood. The singer chose to share the spinach recipe because it is particularly rich in iron, which is a benefit for giving blood.

“This recipe for sautéed spinach is so easy, there’s only three ingredients and it’s really good to eat before you donate blood,” she said. “The American Red Cross recommends eating foods that are high in iron and Vitamin C before giving blood and spinach has both of those.”

“If no one has ever asked you to give blood before, I’m asking you to give blood,” she added. “The Red Cross makes it safe and easy to do, and it’s so important to give back to your community, especially during this trying time.”

The Comfort & Joy campaign runs through December 17, and those who sign up to give blood, platelets or plasma before that date are eligible to win an “Outdoor Living Experience” from Suburban Propane. These prizes include pizza ovens, fire pits, outdoor heaters and stipends for propane. McBride posted a video announcing her involvement in the campaign on Facebook earlier this week. The video also shows the singer preparing the Sautéed Spinach recipe.
