Country icon Martina McBride returned to the spotlight on the 56th annual ACM Awards, on hand as a presenter who’s bold mini-gown turned heads all over. But backstage, she caught attention for a different reason.

Speaking with reporters after the show, the “Independence Day” hit maker said she’s planning to tour again, just as soon as possible.

“Hopefully I’m gonna get back on the road,” said the “A Broken Wing” singer. “I think starting in July through the end of the year, and we are so excited. It’s been too long, and I miss it so much, so I’m ready to get out and see all the fans, and just sing together.”

Meanwhile, the acclaimed vocalist who’s hits also include “Wrong Again” and “Love’s the Only House” hasn’t put out an album of originals in five years (since 2016’s Reckless). But that may be changing soon, too. Like many artists, Martina McBride has been spending her pandemic free time on new music.

“I hope so, we’re working on new music,” she shared. “Just trying to get it all together. It’s been exciting to be back in the studio and be creating together, for sure.”

The 56th annual ACM Awards aired live on CBS April 18, taking place in Nashville for a second year due to COVID-19 concerns. Luke Bryan was crowned Entertainer of the Year, while Maren Morris took home Female Artist of the Year honors and Thomas Rhett was named the Male Artist of the Year.
