Mary Sarah Embraces Retro Style with New Music Release

“I’ve always loved 50s/60s-era style. Like pin-up. For me, it’s more about being really classy pin-up styles and mixing it—mixing the old and the new together," she tells us.

With a new song comes a new style for former The Voice contestant Mary Sarah.

After taking some time to develop her voice within country music, Mary Sarah is making her bold statement with “Without You.” Not only did she want her fans to know who she truly is via her music, she also wanted to show off her authentic personality by way of fashion. Reverting back to the classic styles of the 1950s, Mary Sarah donned loose curls and vintage-inspired ensembles to replicate the haute couture looks of the historic decade.

“I’ve always loved 50s/60s-era style. Like pin-up. For me, it’s more about being really classy pin-up styles and mixing it—mixing the old and the new together. I don’t know why that’s a thing in my life. It’s what I do. I think it’s because I was raised with a lot of the traditional stuff and taught these things,” she explained Sounds Like Nashville recently.

Noting that she mixes a bit of the old with a touch of the new, she looks toward some of the top women in country music to determine her on-stage looks. Admiring all that glitters within the likes of Dolly Parton and Patsy Cline, Mary Sarah puts her own identity within the frocks and pieces she sports when getting dolled up for her shows on the road.

“I love Patsy Cline and even Dolly [Parton],” Mary Sarah revealed. “Dolly hits that classic style, and the rhinestones. I think it’s more about—I love the idea of getting dressed up and having that moment. Granted, I love to dress down. I have my Vans and Converse and boots for the days that I’m just going to a meeting. But I love getting all dolled up. I don’t think it’s something that I’ll ever get over. My style is ever-changing, too.”

So what’s the one thing Mary Sarah will never get rid of in her closet? All the pretty yet professional playsuits that flood many hangers in her wardrobe. Cute and comfortable all in one, Mary Sarah relies on those one-piece outfits to pull off both the dressed up and dressed down looks she rocks in her daily life.

“I really hope rompers and long jumpsuits don’t go out of style,” Mary Sarah said to SLN. “I just love rocking them and they’re really comfortable. It makes life really easy, especially when choosing an outfit. It makes life a lot easier. That’s a staple piece a lot of girls absolutely love.”

Mary Sarah’s single, “Without You,” is available now.
