Matt Stell has had a lot of firsts over the last year, like scoring a Number One single with “Prayed For You.” In 2020, he’ll encounter several more, the biggest currently being his first-ever headlining tour.

Because he’s experiencing a laundry list of new beginnings in his career, the Arkansas native decided to play a ‘game of firsts,’ recalling personal things like his first job, his first Instagram post, his first car and even his first kiss (hint: “start early, practice makes perfect”).

Beginning today (1/27), Sounds Like Nashville will roll out the first of three videos showcasing Stell’s ‘firsts,’ with volume two and three debuting Wednesday (1/29) and Friday (1/31), respectively. Check back each day to see the newly debuted videos below and be sure to see Matt Stell out on his Everywhere But On Tour, featuring special guests Chris Bandi and Ray Fulcher.

You’re about the embark on your first headlining tour – that’s a huge deal! How are you feeling about this big moment?

Honestly I’m really excited to get to play some places I’ve never been before. Having my buddies Chris Bandi and Ray Fulcher on tour is going to make it even more fun. In fact, I feel like the thing we’re going to have to watch out for is having TOO MUCH fun, lol.

You’ve gotten to perform around the country for quite awhile now. What things have you learned that you’ll be taking out on the road with you?

One of the biggest things I’ve learned is how much we all have in common across this country. From the smallest rural towns to New York City and LA, it doesn’t take long to figure out that we’re all a lot alike, even though it seems like we aren’t sometimes.

What are you most looking forward to while out on tour?

I’m probably most looking forward to playing new music. We just got done recording some new stuff and I can’t wait to try it out on tour.

Do you have any pre-show rituals? If so, what are they?

We try to stay loose before shows, whether that’s cracking jokes or dancing to “Chunky” by Bruno Mars. We also try to bring it in before every show and come up with a new toast every time.

Everyone has a bucket list – are there any ‘firsts’ that are still on your bucket list?

Right now it’s on my bucket list to sell out some of the places we’re going on tour. Packed shows are the best thing in the world.

Obviously “Prayed For You” has become a huge sensation among country fans. What has been the reaction, so far, to your new single “Everywhere But On?

The reaction to “Everywhere But On” has been unreal. It means a lot to me because it’s one of my favorite songs I’ve ever been a part of writing. I’m starting to see people sing it in the crowd and it’s incredible.

Do you have any advice for someone who has ‘moved everywhere but on?’

The only advice I have is that sooner or later you have to deal with whatever you’re running from. So you might as well face it now. When you do deal with it, all of that running can then help you get over things instead of just putting off the heartbreak. At least that’s how it works for me.
