What would you do if you were a bar?

Matt Stell is creating the bar of his dreams all while getting back at an ex in his new song, “If I Was A Bar.” In the song, he lists off all the features he’d have if he was a bar, and none of them are things his ex would like.

“I’d have every kind of whiskey and that one red wine you don’t like. The kinda place you’d never be caught dead inside,” he sings in the first verse.

He then goes on to sing about other parts of the taproom, including his ex-girlfriend’s picture on a dart board and a policy that lets all her exes drink for free. These humorous and descriptive lyrics are paired with rollicking country rock instrumentation that would be welcome in any honky tonk, especially the one Stell is describing.

Also out is the music video, which finds Stell showing off his diverse acting skills by playing 13 different characters, including the bartender, a heartbroken guy at the bar, the drummer, and other quirky characters. The video was filmed at Nashville’s Fleet Street Pub, and due to social distancing guidelines, featured the help of only three crew members, including director Dustin Haney.

“It was so much fun,” says Stell of the video shoot. “We basically took different aspects of my personality and turned them up to eleven for this. Doing it reminded me of some of my favorite scenes in my favorite movies.”

“If I Was A Bar” follows Stell’s latest single “Everywhere But On” and his No. 1 hit single, “Prayed For You.”
