Mel Tillis ‘On The Road to Recovery’ Following Friday Morning Surgery

The 83-year-old singer is reportedly in critical condition following surgery in a Nashville hospital early Friday morning (1/15). The reason for surgery is still unclear.

Tillis is best known for the songs “I Ain’t Never,” “Good Woman Blues” and “Coca-Cola Cowboy.” In 1976, he was awarded the CMA Awards Entertainer of the Year and inducted into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame. Mel is also the father to “Mi Vida Loca (My Crazy Life)” singer Pam Tillis.

Mel Tillis’ rep Don Murry Grubbs released a statement to The Tennessean. “Doctors said he’s doing fine and on the right track,” Grubbs told the publication. “He’s awake and watching television.”
Tillis reportedly had colon surgery Friday morning at Centennial Medical Center and is still hospitalized. Grubbs confirms that the singer is “on the road to recovery.”
