Michael Ray is ready to kick off summer right — with a brand new song. The singer has released “Summer Water” ahead of Memorial Day and the nostalgic ballad has Ray singing of his youth spent hanging out by the lake.

“I have so many memories from my childhood, my teenage years, even my young adult years, that all involve time spent on the water,” the Florida native says in a press release. “That’s where you learned to fish when you were a kid, it’s the place you met up with your buddies on the weekend and even now it’s where I go with my dad to just talk about life. My grandfather did the same thing with my dad—it’s generational for us and something I know I’ll do with my kids down the road.”

On “Summer Water,” Ray belts about spending the first night with his love and the last night with his first love before he goes off to college by the water. “There was magic in the summer water / Learned to swim in the summer water / All the small-town sons and daughters were baptized a thousand times,” he croons.

“Summer Water” was written by Heather Morgan and Lee Thomas Miller. It is the latest song Ray has released ahead of his upcoming sophomore studio album, Amos, out June 1.

The singer is set to perform many of the tracks off the project June 7-10 in Nashville during CMA Music Festival.
