On Thursday (March 3), Mickey Guyton shared a video of her performing an emotional new song, “What Are You Gonna Tell Her?” at the Ryman Auditorium during Country Radio Seminar in February. In the song, Guyton sings about a young woman who grows up believing the best about the world only to be awakened to a stark reality.

In the opening verse, she sings, “She thinks life is fair, and God hears every prayer and everyone gets their ever after. She thinks love is love, and if you work hard, that’s enough. Skin’s just skin and it doesn’t matter.”

Guyton continues to the chorus, singing “But what are you gonna tell her when she’s wrong? Do you shrug and say it’s been like this all along.

Guyton belts the compelling lyrics through the threat of tears in the video and is met with a standing ovation at the end of the song.

She shared the video link on Instagram, writing, “Y’all ask me where I’ve been? Well, I ain’t never left. I’m so proud of this song. It was written just for you. Thank you for your constant love thru the years. I’m back y’all and stronger than ever. Rise up.”

Guyton has long been a supporter of female musicians such as herself and has openly shared her opinions regarding the lack of female artists on the radio. Lately, she has been putting her support into action by featuring young female artists on her social media pages.

“What Are You Gonna Tell Her?” is available on Apple Music now.
