Miranda Lambert Talks ‘Platinum’ with ‘Rolling Stone’

Miranda Lambert - CountryMusicIsLove

Miranda Lambert never stays out of the spotlight for long, between hits like “Automatic” taking over airwaves and her playful relationship with husband and fellow country star Blake Shelton filling magazines. Recently, though, fans had an all-new reason to gush when Lambert took home three ACM awards, literally leaving with her hands full and setting a record for her fifth consecutive win as Female Vocalist of the Year. The country star opened up to Rolling Stone about her forthcoming album Platinum, joking about her expansion beyond a “Crazy Ex-Girlfriend.”

“”I’ll still shoot a two-timing man if I need to,” she told RS. “But I’m not just burning houses down anymore. I have more to sing about.”

More to sing about, indeed—since Lambert’s first single in 2007, she’s conquered country airwaves and sold over a million copies of each of her four solo albums, and that’s not to mention her work with Pistol Annies. Lambert’s relatable tracks are a breath of fresh air for country listeners ready to take a break from all the trucks and the bikinis.

“What are they calling it, ‘bro country’?” she says. “I love those songs, but for a minute there, it felt like girls ran the show. We have to save this thing we’ve made–Carrie [Underwood] and Taylor [Swift] and me.”

Lambert’s success is remarkable, but Platinum is about far more than that, even from the title title track.

“It’s about platinum records,” Lambert said. “But also the color of an Airstream, and the color of my hair. It’s a campy, fun song.”

Platinum is set for release on June 3.
