"It's about bringing these artists that are right under the surface. I think the Stapletons and Isbell and all these artists are artists that are going to matter in the future," producer Dave Cobb said.

When producer Dave Cobb was pitched the idea of a concept album, he initially laughed it off. But after much thought, he was able to create Southern Family, a star-studded piece of work that would make any country music fan swoon.

“Somebody said, ‘You should make a concept record,’ and I kind of giggled about it for a second,” Cobb told Music Row. “But, then I thought, man, wouldn’t it be amazing to have all my friends on one record and really find a common thread? Southern Family, about their mothers, grandparents, kids, siblings, these detailed stories about how they grew up and their families and the things that make them who they are.”

Southern Family will feature country radio favorites Miranda Lambert and Zac Brown, as well as Americana hitmakers like Jason Isbell. The album also features a collaboration of Chris Stapleton and his wife, Morgane, who cover of “You Are My Sunshine” (Cobb is currently nominated for a Grammy as producer on Stapleton’s album, Traveller).

“It’s about bringing these artists that are right under the surface. I think the Stapletons and Isbell and all these artists are artists that are going to matter in the future,” he told Rolling Stone Country. “They are legitimate timeless artists and this scene is bubbling right under a lot of people’s ears. It’s strength in numbers of having so many gifted, talented artists together, unify, and make one record for the right reason.”

Fans can pick up their copy of Southern Family on March 18.
