More Details Emerge About Accident Involving Jamie Lynn Spears’ Daughter

After chilling news about a horrific accident involving Jamie Lynn Spears’ daughter Maddie, several other details have come to light about the horrifying incident.
On Sunday evening (Feb. 5), TMZ reported that 8-year-old Maddie had been driving an ATV when she crashed and was submerged underwater for several minutes. She was allegedly airlifted to a New Orleans hospital where she was said to have been in stable condition.
Since then, little has been revealed about the accident until Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff Daniel Edwards released a statement this afternoon, which was obtained by PEOPLE. According to the report, the accident took place shortly before 3:00 p.m. on Sunday afternoon and occurred on the family property, not during a hunting trip as TMZ previously reported.
The report goes on the say that Maddie was driving the ATV and swerved to avoid a drainage ditch when she flipped. “In doing so, she overcorrected causing the ATV to enter the pond,” it reads. “The ATV and child were instantly submerged in the water right before their eyes.”
Jamie Lynn and her husband (and Maddie’s step-father) Jamie Watson were by her side immediately.
“Within seconds the child’s mother, step-father and other family members reached the pond, dove in and attempted to rescue the child to no avail,” the report continues. “The child was trapped and secured by the seatbelt and the ATV’s safety netting. Within two minutes, Acadian Ambulance Services arrived and assisted in freeing the child from the cold waters.”
Currently, Maddie remains in critical, but stable condition.

Not much else is known about Maddie’s current state and Jamie Lynn has remained silent during this time. The singer’s father, Jamie, spoke with Entertainment Tonight after the incident and requested prayers. “All I can say is pray for our baby Maddie,” he shared.
Maddie is Jamie Lynn’s only child with ex-fiance Casey Aldridge.
