Runaway June’s Natalie Stovall shared a unique way she is honoring her late grandmother and promoting breast cancer prevention and awareness. The singer participated in Keep A Breast Foundation’s #NashvilleKABCollection, where women had casts made of their chests that were then turned into pieces of art and will be put up for auction to benefit breast cancer awareness. The singer explained that she has a personal connection to the issue of breast cancer, as her own grandmother was diagnosed with the disease at age 86.
“My Granny Stratton: (1910 – 2015) had breast cancer at the age of 86. She lived to be 105,” wrote Stovall. “She was a warrior & inspiration, although she would laugh and tell me to hush if she heard me say that.”
In the post, Stovall included photos of the cast-making process, her grandmother, and a photo of the finished cast, which was decorated with her grandmother’s favorite hymnals, as well as flowers and fairies.
“She thought raindrops splashing in puddles looked like fairies dancing,” she wrote.
Stovall also included information about the Keep A Breast Foundation, which seeks to educate women about breast health and breast cancer prevention. The foundation was founded by a woman named Shaney Jo after she lost a friend to breast cancer.
“#KAB is an incredible organization that promotes prevention & education (with a new app that is amazing!) & combines art + awareness to help us all be better about checking our bodies,” she wrote.
The Nashville Collection casts will go up for sale in October.
