New Album Coming From Toby Keith

Toby Keith told Billboard that he’s “about half done” with his next album, American Ride.

The lead single from the album, which is also the title track, “American Ride” is climbing the charts and currently sits at No. 30 on the Country Aircheck chart. Although the song may sound like Toby wrote it, he admits, he didn’t.

“I’ve only ever done, like, four or five songs in 16 albums that I didn’t write, and this one sounds like I wrote it,” Toby told of the song that was penned by Joe West and Dave Pahanish.

“They sent it to me to listen to and said ‘You’re the only guy in the world that could get away with cutting it.’ I held it for about a year; it was so different I thought I’d be tired of it. I just left it on my iPod and kept listening to it, and it never got old,” he said.

According to Billboard, Toby and Bobby Pinson cut the majority of the rest of the tracks on the album including “Drive It On Home,” “a real modern, hard-drivin’, truck drivin’ song” and a ballad called “Tender as I Wanna Be.”

Toby says he hopes to finish the album within the next six weeks and that it should be in stores sometime this fall.

(Fun fact: “American Ride” was actually called “American Life” when it was submitted to him.)
