New Lawsuits Lists Sugarland as Defendant in Stage Collapse Case

One month after the accident, notices have been sent to the attorney general’s office by the family of 22-year-old Jennifer Haskell who died six days after the rigging fell. Those notices not only blame the State of Indiana, concert organizers and contractors, but for the first time in clear language, names Sugarland and its employees as defendants in the stage collapse.
In tort claim filings, Haskell’s parents and sister name 15 specific entities as defendants, including “the band known as “Sugarland,” and its members, agents and employees.” It goes on to say, “Jennifer Haskell’s injuries and wrongful death were the proximate result of the defendants’ negligence, gross negligence, and/or recklessness.”
Jennifer Haskell’s friend, Alina BigJohny, also died as a result of the accident. BigJohny’s parents have also filed notices with the state and lists Sugarland and its manager Gail Gellman as involved in the case, but stopped there. The Haskells’ filings clearly lists Sugarland as a defendant.
More than 40 people were injured when the stage collapsed just prior to Sugarland’s set at the Indiana State Fair in August.
