After injuring his leg last year, Old Dominion’s Matthew Ramsey decided to undergo surgery to fix the tears ailing him. Because of the procedure, Old Dominion decided to postpone several dates of their Make It Sweet Tour in order to give Ramsey some time to recuperate. But just two weeks after going under the knife, Ramsey decided ‘the show must go on’ and is moving forward with performances with the help of rock icon Dave Grohl.

Now, how did the Foo Fighters frontman help Old Dominion exactly? Well, in 2015, Grohl broke his leg during a show in Sweden. Rather than canceling his remaining performances, he created a “rock throne” so he could sit and still perform for his legions of fans. The rock throne has become a beacon for fellow artists who want to continue performing for fans.

“Its been used by Dave Grohl, Axl Rose, Rod Stewart and now, me,” said Ramsey in a video posted to the band’s Instagram.

“So many jokes were thrown around about using Dave Grohl’s throne, finally we just decided to ask and see what happened,” Ramsey told PEOPLE recently. “I’m sure Dave didn’t know that when he created this thing, everyone would want to use it. But, it has been an honor to sit on, and more importantly, it’s allowing us to keep the show on the road. Our fans are truly grateful. We owe him big for that.”

After asking Grohl for use of the chair, the band outfitted it with the OD logo and lights, making it the ideal seat for Ramsey to rock out during his shows.

The Old Dominion frontman will continue to use the chair for the band’s weekend run in Florida. After wrapping in Tallahassee, the band will have two weeks off, giving Ramsey more time to relax and recover. Ramsey hopes by then he’ll be able to get around without use of the crutches and chair.

Catch Old Dominion out on the road for their Make It Sweet Tour and at the 2019 CMA Fest in Nashville’s Nissan Stadium. The group is currently nominated for Group of the Year at the 2019 ACM Awards.
