Old Dominion are getting used to this whole awards show game. After all, they scored their fourth ACM Group of the Year win in a row at last weekend’s (April 18) ceremony. But that doesn’t mean they’re shifting into autopilot.

Backstage after the show, the five-man group told reporters they’re not resting on the win at all. In fact, they’ll soon announce another brand new album of tunes, and the live performance superstars are also hitting the road.

“We’ve got a lot of new music that’s gonna be coming out very soon,” said front man Matthew Ramsey. “And then we have a lot of shows coming up, too. It seems like things are opening back up. I mean, we have a show starting May 4 we’re playing in Key West, Florida. And then as the year goes on, there’s more coming in. So I think by the end of this year, it’s gonna look normal-ish. It feels great.”

Back in January, the band confirmed they had written an entire album of new material during the COVID-19 pandemic, telling RADIO.com that they set up camp in Asheville, North Carolina, and focused on nothing but writing. They expected a couple of songs, but got a whole record’s worth of tunes, and say fans should expect a change of pace. We don’t know what that means for a band known for smart hooks with a hint of humor and bright, energized sonics, but they’re excited.

“We definitely saw an opportunity to do something different,” said Ramsey at the time. “We made an album that we definitely couldn’t have made here in Nashville.”

The news shouldn’t really be surprising, though, since Old Dominion has been one of the most prolific bands in terms of creativity throughout the pandemic. They also dropped the Band Behind the Curtain EP, a One Man Band medley album and the famous Meow Mix LP — where they re-recorded their entire 2019 self-titled album using only meows for the vocals.

The 56th annual ACM Awards aired live on CBS April 18, taking place in Nashville for a second year due to COVID-19 concerns. Luke Bryan was crowned Entertainer of the Year, while Maren Morris took home Female Artist of the Year honors and Thomas Rhett was named the Male Artist of the Year.
