On August 5th, singer/songwriter Priscilla Block watched her world turn upside down when her song, “Just About Over You,” shot up to the number one spot on the Country and All-Genre charts on iTunes. This feat was accomplished after the song and its honest lyrics struck a chord with music fans on TikTok. In just a few weeks, videos of the song garnered over 3 million views on the app and resulted in a following of over 300K fans. These fans were so passionate about the song that they donated to have Block record the song, and when she did, they took it straight to the top.

“I’m still crying, honestly. I am really, really, really thankful,” Block told Sounds Like Nashville in an exclusive interview.

“It’s really overwhelming and just crazy,” she continues. “It’s all because of the fans.”

The mid-tempo song was co-written by Block, Sarah Jones and Emily Kroll, and finds the singer going through the stage after a breakup when she’s convinced she’s over her ex, but all that progress unravels when she sees him out at a bar.

She illustrates this situation in the chorus, singing, “Why’d you have to come back in right then, right when I was just getting good gone / Guess I was in the wrong place at the wrong time, you must have heard I was moving on / Then right out of the blue, a quarter past two, I’m all about you when I was just about, just about over you.”

“It’s my real life,” Block says of the song. “It’s my story of going through a breakup and thinking that you’re over somebody and then you’re not. It’s a couple steps forward, a couple steps back, and just the emotional roller coaster of the whole thing.”

While some country fans may just be getting to know Block with the success of “Just About Over You,” she’s been building her career in Nashville for some time. Originally from North Carolina, Block moved to Music City straight out of high school six years ago. Since then, she’s been co-writing, networking, and figuring out the kind of artist she wants to be, which is someone who always stays true to herself.

“I want to be the girl that you would want to hang out with,” she says. “The girl that you could go have a beer with and could keep it real.”

Block is continuing to see the effects of the song’s popularity — from appearing on radio shows to getting a direct message from Carly Pearce, who offered her help and guidance. Looking into the future, Block isn’t sure exactly what will happen, but she’s excited to keep making music for her fans.

“In a perfect world, hopefully I drop an album and I’m on a massive tour next year,” Block says. “It’s funny, me and my team talk about it — we had a game plan for this year to release different music, and then this thing happens with TikTok, so we’re kind of just rolling with whatever the fans want. Whatever they are needing, that’s kind of what I’m going to do.”

“Just About Over You” follows previous releases from Block, including the humorous, body-positive anthem, “Thick Thighs.”
