Producer Eddie Garcia from The Bobby Bones Show completed a trek from West Virginia to Tennessee this week, raising almost $275,000 for charity in the process. The charitable journey began as a challenge made by Bobby Bones and other show members after Eddie suggested walking from West Virginia to Tennessee — as George Strait sings about in his tune “Carrying Your Love With Me” — was “not that far.”

Eddie accepted the challenge with one stipulation: if listeners could raise $10,000 for foster care organization, National Angels, he would make the over 70-mile walk. The show listeners more than delivered on the challenge, donating more than $30K in one day and sending Eddie on his journey.

Eddie began his walk at the Virginia/West Virginia state line on Father’s Day, June 20. He competed the trek in four days, walking 16 miles on day one and 25 miles on day two. He then completed over 22 miles on day three and reached downtown Bristol, Tennessee after walking 10 miles on day four. Eddie documented each day with videos on social media, which showed a brief black bear encounter, beautiful scenery and the challenging terrain he had to take on. Eddie also encountered many listeners and fans who stopped by the cheer him on. In the last video posted from the trip, Eddie can be seen crossing the finish line from Bristol, WV to Bristol, TN. He also posted a photo from his completed journey.

“I did it!!!!!! I walked all the way from West Virginia down to Tennessee! Raised so much money for @nationalangels and met a ton of great humans out here,” he wrote. “THANK YOU for all the support and encouragement along the way! I didn’t do this alone!”

Although Eddie’s walking journey is over, fans and listeners can still make donations to National Angels in honor of his walk. Hyundai also joined in on the campaign, donating $10K to the cause and providing a 2022 Hyundai Tucson, which producer Scuba Steve used to follow Eddie on the road. National Angels is nonprofit organization which aims to support “children, youth, and families in the foster care community.” As a foster parent himself, Eddie has seen firsthand the impact of the National Angels organization.

“My wife and I, there were times when we felt like there was no support. It was just her and I being foster parents,” Eddie says in a video on the donation page. “It’s exhausting and it’s tiring and there were times when we had to sacrifice a lot of things in our life to become foster parents. But the National Angels really help in that sense. They let you know that you’re not doing this by yourself, that they are with you like an actual angel on your shoulder saying, ‘No, no no. We’re going to help you do this.’ Because they know how important it is for the foster care system.”
