Reba McEntire will make her return to television after partnering with NBC for a new project. According to Variety, the singer will star in a new series based on Fried Green Tomatoes. Norman Lear will be executive producing.

According to the publication, the drama will be a modernized version of the book and movie that explores the lives of the descendants from the original works. McEntire will appear as present-day Idgie Threadgoode, who returns to Whistle Shop after being away for more than 10 years. She’ll reportedly “wrestle with a changed town, estranged daughter, faltering cafe and life-changing secret.”

McEntire will join Lear as executive producer. Lear served as executive producer on the Fried Green Tomatoes film. Jennifer Cecil will executive produce and write for the series. Fannie Flagg, author of the novel and co-writer of the film’s screenplay, will also executive produce.

No word yet on when the series will hit NBC.

McEntire is no stranger to television, previously starring in her own sitcom Reba from 2001-2007. Other TV credits include Young Sheldon, Last Man Standing, and Frasier.
