Recap: CountryMusicIsLove at the Las Cruces Country Music Festival

RaeLynn

CountryMusicIsLove traveled to New Mexico last weekend for the third annual Las Cruces Country Music Festival, which included performances by Kenny Rogers, Dustin Lynch, The Swon Brothers and RaeLynn. Not only was the weekend filled with fun, food and follies, after three days in Las Cruces this reporter has deemed the city the friendliest in the country.

The concert included a special guest for RaeLynn, who played the first night of the festival. “The best part about traveling is that sometimes your sister might call you and say she’s coming to a show,” RaeLynn told CMIL. “I haven’t seen her in a couple of months and she’s pregnant with another baby and she has my little niece Lila, so I can’t wait to see her.”

Dustin Lynch headlined the second night of the festival, wowing the crowd with new music. “Our performance is very heavy second album,” he told CMIL. “We play some first album favorites and singles but other than that it’s pretty much the second album because me and the guys love to evolve … ‘Mind Reader’ and ‘Halo’ are two very obvious [hits], the crowd just explodes.”

Singer-songwriter Wynn Varble was also on hand for an intimate performance at the Rio Grande Theatre in which performed and told the story behind some of country’s biggest hits. Among the tales was the story of how Garth Brooks came to record Wynn’s tune, “Mom.” Hear the story in the video below:
