The Voice contestants went through another nail-biting series of battle rounds on Monday night (Oct. 17) as the judges continued to listen to their team members compete for their approval.

Blake Shelton had some tough decisions to make during the broadcast that left him speechless. First up, he watched his own singer/songwriter Blaine Long vs. country hopeful Josh Gallagher. The two teamed up to duet on Ronnie Milsap’s “Stranger in My House.” Gallagher rocked it out on guitar as Long connected with the crowd. There was a sense of brotherhood on stage as the two men looked like they were having fun while bursting with energy.

“This one breaks my heart,” Shelton said as he pondered his decision. “Even as I’m talking to you, I don’t know, I really don’t know.” Ultimately he decided to put his faith in Gallagher and continue with him into the next round.

Shelton team members Dana Harper and Tarra Layne battled it out, and Harper’s deep sultry voice won her coach’s approval and she will move on.

The youngest competitor of this season, Gabe Gallagher, went up against another young gun, Christian Fermin. They sang Hoobastank’s “The Reason” together in a performance filled with heartfelt emotion from both young men. Despite their age, the strength and maturity in their voice was outstanding. Shelton had a near impossible time picking the winner, but sent Fermin home as Broussard will continue on in the season.

“There’s something about how real and personal you are when you perform. At the end of the day you get lost in the moment,” Shelton said about Broussard.

Though he had to watch some of his members leave, Shelton also expanded his team when he stole Karlee Metzger from team Miley Cyrus. Though she is a proclaimed Indie singer, Shelton noticed some country potential in her voice and invited Metzger to join his team after she lost her battle round to Darby Walker. She happily agreed.

The final night of battle rounds will air tonight at 8 PM EST on NBC.
