“Caught Up in the Country” singer Rodney Atkins got caught up in a surprise by his wife, Rose Falcon. The “These Are My People” hit maker was bamboozled into taking part in a gender reveal for his third child.

In a video posted last week, a clueless Atkins was led to believe he was promoting the Second Harvest Food Bank, but in reality he was about to find out he was having a boy. Standing in his driveway with a baseball bat in hand, Atkins waits for Falcon to toss him a ball – supposedly symbolizing efforts to “strike out hunger.” But when Atkins takes his swing, the ball explodes in a cloud of blue smoke.

Atkins and Falcon already have one son – one-year-old Ryder – and country fans have been familiar with Atkins’ 17-year-old son Elijah since his 2006 “Watching You” video. Speaking with People, Atkins says he had the prank coming.

“We did the ‘sneak peek’ gender test when Rose was pregnant with Ryder, and Eli and I got to surprise her … so this time it was her turn,” he explains. “And ‘boy’ she really got me good.”

The couple shared the news about their pregnancy at the end of Atkins’ “My Life” music video earlier this year, and Atkins’ Caught Up in the Country album is set to arrive May 10.
