Ronnie Dunn Fights the Rules of the Grand Ole Opry

Ronnie Dunn is set to sing at the Grand Ole Opry this weekend and although the Opry is a timeless country music tradition, Ronnie is having a hard time following some of their rules. Ronnie, who admits he’s a big fan of social media, took to his Facebook page earlier this week to explain his dilemma.

“I’m singing on the Opry Saturday Night…..someone called a few days ago and informed me that they prefer past radio ‘hits'”” Ronnie posted.

Wanting to concentrate on his new music instead of the old Brooks & Dunn hits, Ronnie said that his Opry appearance this weekend will be done in his own way.

“I’m having a hard time playing by ‘the rules,’ these days. ….I really am! In fact, I’m over it. Think I’ll sing what I feel like singing…they can spank me and send me home.”

After hundreds of fans voiced their support for Ronnie by commenting on his post, Ronnie admitted that their support is just what he needed to hear.

“This is amazing to me…I’ve received MORE comments from this post than anything I’ve ever said,” Ronnie responded to fans. “What’s good to hear is that YOU…THE FANS…. are passionate about following your hearts and people that do. I’ve NEEDED to hear this for a very long time !!! Don’t let me blow this !! I don’t get another chance.”

Ronnie’s performance this weekend is part of the Opry’s 86th birthday celebration which will also feature performances by Rascal Flatts, Craig Morgan, Charley Pride and many others. You can purchse tickets to the performance HERE.
