Country superstar couple Ryan Hurd and Maren Morris are finally teaming up together for their official first duet, “Chasing After You.”

“Everytime everytime you say we’re done, you can back to the love you were running from / Don’t know why don’t know why I let you but I do / ‘Cause I love chasing after you,” Morris and Hurd sing on the chorus of the smoldering, romantic track over groovy bass licks. The mid-tempo love song was penned by Nashville songwriters Brinley Addington and Jerry Flowers, and produced by Teddy Reimer and Aaron Eshuis.

“Maren and I met writing songs and we’ve sung on each other’s records and written together, but this is the first time we’ve gotten to do an actual duet together,” Hurd said in a statement. “It feels like the timing is really perfect and it’s a full circle moment to get to make music together in this way.”

Both Hurd and Morris are no stranger to musical collaborations. They have songwriting credits on each other’s songs, such as Hurd’s “Good As You Think I Am” and Morris’ “Just For Now.” The power couple also penned Tim McGraw’s poignant “Last Turn Home” off his 2014 Sundown Heaven Town album.

In a separate interview with Today’s Country Radio with Kelleigh Bannen on Apple Music Country, Hurd added that he feels “really blessed” that “Chasing After You” “fell to [him] a couple years ago.”

“The song is actually pretty famous on music row. The demo made it through the rounds and a lot of people held it,” the Kalamazoo, Michigan explained.

“We recorded a different version of it [initially], but we wanted one that was a little more current and something that fit our sound a little bit better now.  And it’s gone through a couple of versions, it really has,” Hurd shares. “I remember we were on a beach in the Cayman Islands, I think it was the first trip we ever took together, and Maren was like, ‘I want to sing on that song with you.’ So this is years in the making.”

“Chasing After You” follows Hurd’s EOM EP, which dropped last year. The seven-track project featured the single “Every Other Memory” as well as his cover of Taylor Swift’s “False God” and a live version of fan favorite, “Wish For The World.”

Morris’ last full-length album was 2019’s GIRL, which spawned the singles “The Bones,” “To Hell And Back,” and the title track. Recently, she collaborated with pop artist JP Saxe for a tender love song called “Line By Line.” She is slated to start recording her third studio record very soon.

Signed to Sony Music Nashville in January 2017, Hurd will release his new single and all future recordings on the label’s Arista Nashville imprint, shifting from RCA Nashville.
