More than two years of memories went into Hurd’s latest release, in which he recounts how far the couple has come throughout their relationship. Essentially assuring Morris that he’ll be her rock through thick and thin no matter what comes their way, the song represents their love as a whole and Hurd meant it for no one else but his girl.
“I wrote this song for you, played it for you in Michigan the night I asked you to marry me. Diamonds or Twine, no matter what, I’ll be wrapped around your finger. I love you, MM. Here’s to forever,” Hurd wrote on Instagram when announcing the song’s release.
Both Hurd and Morris have been quite open about discussing their relationship, which began a few years ago in a writing session. Their careers blossomed just like that of their time together, but they always remained each other’s biggest fans. Ryan took Morris out on a romantic boat trip last July and asked the “Rich” singer to spend forever with him, and she gladly accepted.
“I played this song for Maren the night we got engaged,” shared Hurd in a press release. “We were at the lake in Michigan, on the dock, and I will never forget that moment. Diamonds or twine, no matter what, I’ll be yours and you’ll be mine.”
The two plan to wed on Saturday, March 24, among family and friends. They will continue on as husband and wife in Nashville, with their two pups, June and Pancake.
“Diamonds or Twine” is available to stream now.
