A lot of people scratched their heads when they realized Sam Hunt wasn’t in the crowd to accept his ACM award at the ceremony, but the singer went on the record to clear his absence for a good reason.

Although assumptions could have been made that Hunt ditched out of the show to focus on his marriage and other important ventures outside of the industry, he actually missed out on the festivities to attend his tour manager’s wedding and stand by his side during the romantic ceremony. The country singer even posted a photo from the special day, and promised he’d be back to Vegas next year.

“Thank you Academy Of Country Music for the award for Single of the Year. I was celebrating the marriage of my long time friend and tour manager John Worthington. This made the weekend extra special. See y’all next year,” Hunt wrote next to the black-and-white photo of him and his friend.

During the 53rd Annual ACM Awards, Hunt took home the prize for Single Record of the Year due to the huge success of “Body Like a Back Road.” The song crossed over genres into the pop world, and blew up on streaming services all throughout 2017. Fans anxiously anticipate a second album to come soon, in which Hunt has not yet announced further plans for that project.

Hunt will join Luke Bryan out on the road this summer for the What Makes You Country Tour, hitting stadiums and arenas all throughout the next upcoming months. More information about dates and tickets can be found on Hunt’s website.
