Sam Hunt has issued his first statement since his Thursday morning (11/21) arrest. He took to social media to apologize to fans for getting behind the wheel while intoxicated.

“Wednesday night I decided to drive myself home after drinking at a friend’s show in downtown Nashville,” wrote the “Kinfolks” singer. “It was a poor and selfish decision and I apologize to everyone who was unknowingly put at risk and let down by it. It won’t happen again.”

Country hitmaker Sam Hunt was arrested early Thursday morning (11/21) for driving the wrong way on an East Nashville road while intoxicated, reports WKRN.

According to police reports acquired by the publication, Hunt was booked at a Metro jail at approximately 6:30 a.m. on the charges of driving under the influence and having an open container.

The arrest warrant alleges that a vehicle was traveling south in the northbound lanes of Ellington Parkway near Ben Allen Road. When officers arrived on the scene, the found the vehicle allegedly going the wrong way and swerving between lanes.

After pulling the car over, police said Hunt smelled of alcohol, had bloodshot eyes and had two empty beers next to him. Documents reveal that Hunt admitted to drinking “recently.”

He was released from jail at around 9 a.m. on a $2,500 bond. His court date has been set for January 17, 2020.

Hunt recently made his way back into the spotlight with the release of his song “Kinfolks.”
