Sam Hunt Shares His Version of Garth Brooks’ Song, “What She’s Doing Now”
This remixed take on a classic is nothing like fans have heard before!
Sam Hunt is back breaking the barriers of country music yet again with the surprise release of a new remix of an old classic on his Instagram account.
The “Hard to Forget” singer has been rather quiet on social media, posting only a few snapshots throughout the summer. But he got his followers on Instagram fired up about a remake of a Garth Brooks cut called “What She’s Doing Now” after putting up a one-minute clip of the song.
“Just for laughs, I dial her old number / But no one knew her name / Hung up the phone, sat there and wondered / If she’d ever done the same,” Hunt croons with a synthesized tone over a simple beatpad melody.
Hunt continues to sing the story of heartbreak as if he experienced the song’s inspiration himself.
“What she’s doing now is tearing me apart / Filling up my mind and emptying my heart / I can hear her call each time the cold wind blows / And I wonder if she knows what she’s doing now,” he confesses throughout the powerful chorus.
While Hunt is no stranger to experimenting with complex sounds unrelated to the traditional style of country music, this quick snippet could be a precursor for a possible drop outside of the genre. Some fans begged the singer-songwriter to drop his version of the revamped track in the comments of the post, while others questioned what this means for his musical journey.
Hunt has been enjoying the last few months at home after canceling his Southside Summer Tour due to COVID-19 concerns for fans and his crew. Nevertheless, this season was a productive one for the singer as he also scored his seventh number one with his hit, “Hard to Forget.”
