It was quite the day in Music City as legendary artists Sam Moore and Alabama received their own stars on the Nashville Walk of Fame on Thursday, May 26.

Both Moore and Alabama were inducted into the downtown Nashville landmark for their contribution to the musical and social communities here in the heart of Tennessee. Mayor Megan Barry was in attendance to honor the talented musicians for the impacts they have made on music throughout their careers.

“So Sam Moore, Alabama, you have brought so much feeling to your music for so many of us for so many years now. So Sam and Jeff, Teddy and Randy, let me congratulate you on this well-deserved honor. And to thank you for all you have done for our great city, Nashville. Thank you,” said Barry.

Fellow country singer Connie Smith introduced Moore to his star, noting on their tightknit friendship and Moore’s incredible voice that has lasted generation after generation. Upon accepting his star, Moore decided to take matters into his own hands and gave the crowd quite the chuckle during his speech.

“I am more than happy, it’s a pleasure and an honor,” he said. “I think it’s almost complete now once I get Connie Smith to sing with me some gospel, it would be complete. So I wanna ask you a question and then I’m gonna leave. Can you see me? Can you hear me? Thank you. Now I’m gonna sit my butt down.”

Alabama, who will have their own exhibit at the Country Music Hall of Fame, was then called up to receive their plaque for their success in the music industry. Their families, as well as some of their crew, were in the audience cheering on as they accepted their honor.

“We’ve received a lot of awards over the years and you probably think we’re tired of it. This is a big honor to be added to the Walk of Fame and just wanna say to our fans, anybody we’ve worked with and was positive with our career a great big thank you,” said band member Jeff Cook.

Alabama band member Randy Owen pointed out the love he has for his family, the city and the proud award they were given.

“Thank y’all very much and we’re just…to be on the same stage with Sam and Connie is a special thing. From this little podium, I wanna say I love my little granddaughter, Stella Grace, who’s sitting out here and my other three could not be here because now that’s another subject. I thought this was important, but school I guess is more important. Anyways, thank y’all. Thank our mayor and thanks to the city of Nashville, Tennessee.”
