Sara Evans Brings ‘The Heat’ to Rascal Flatts’ Tour

Sara Evans is on the road this summer as a supporting act on Rascal Flatts’ “Flatts Fest” tour. While the focus is mainly on the music, Sara is excited about showing the Flatts’ boys her athletic side! Gary, Jay, and Joe Don have been known to shoot some hoops while out on the road and Sara is out to prove that she can hold her own on the basketball court.

“I’m a big athlete and so we’ll probably play some basketball out there. They don’t know what’s coming,” Sara tells CountryMusicIsLove during a recent interview. “They have no clue the heat I’m going to bring. And I’m going to bring [my husband] Jay out and he’s an amazing athlete so we can hold our own there.”

With their large family – Sara and Jay have seven kids between them – Sara is confident that there’s safety in numbers.

“We have more kids than they do, so we could form our own team,” Sara laughed. “I’m not intimidated. I’m not afraid.”

While Sara hones her basketball skills, she’s also busy promoting her latest single, “My Heart Can’t Tell You No.” The song, a remake of Rod Stewart’s original hit, is something that Sara has been looking forward to recording for a while.

“I’ve always loved this song and I’ve had it in my back pocket for a long time as something that I was going to record someday because I think it’s one of the best lyrical songs I’ve ever heard,” she tells us. “It’s very sad, and very emotional.”

Although the lyrics of the song were already there, Sara and her producer conquered the task of putting a modern feel on the song.

“I brought it up to Tony Brown and he loved the idea and we just went in the studio. Our main goal was to take the eighties away from it, ‘cause it was very eighties sounding, and so we just went in there, and I just started singing it, and the band kind of came in, and we formed our own version of it. So, [I’m] very excited about it.”

Sara will continue to bring her new single – and her basketball skills! – to the “Flatts Fest” through the middle of September.
