Carrie Underwood pulled a clever trick with her latest single on ACM Presents: Our Country, turning the title of “Drinking Alone” on its head.

Speaking from her home in Nashville as she took part in a nationwide social distancing effort to combat COVID-19, the country superstar explained that even if viewers felt alone at the moment, they were in good company — and thus not really alone at all. Sitting on a couch and dressed for classy comfort in a black sweater and jeans, she had a glass of red wine at her side and offered those at home a toast before jumping into the torchy single.

Backed by a piano which joined her off screen, Underwood belted out the 2019-released track without breaking a sweat — despite its series of high flying vocal runs and sweeping range. The soulful Top 20 hit took on a more personal feeling with the intimate setting, and the star capped that feeling off by finishing her appearance with another much-needed sip of wine.

Underwood’s performance was part of the replacement special for the postponed ACM Awards, which also featured performances by Keith Urban, Tim McGraw, Little Big Town and more. The ACM Awards will take place in Las Vegas on Wednesday, September 16.
