It’s going to be pretty tough to top a night that includes the showmanship of Blanco Brown, Jimmie Allen, Ray Wylie Hubbard and Eric Church.

Yet SESAC’s Nashville Music Awards on Sunday (Nov. 10) at the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum delivered as the official kickoff of CMA Awards week. The evening celebrated the performing rights organization’s most-performed country and Americana songs. The night’s big winners were Justin Ebach (Songwriter of the Year for Dustin Lynch’s “Good Girl”), Luke Combs’ “Beautiful Crazy” (SESAC Song of the Year for Wyatt Durrette, III) and Warner Chappell Music (Publisher of the Year).

Brown wowed attendees with a soul-stirring show opener of Sam Cooke’s “A Change Is Gonna Come” and then seamlessly transitioned into his runaway No. 1 “The Git Up.” Jimmie Allen performed a moving piano rendition of his record-breaking debut “Best Shot” alongside co-writer and fellow award winner Josh London. Hubbard took the stage last to deliver the Church co-write, “Desperate Man.” Church was among the ceremony’s surprise guests to present Hubbard with his award for the night.

“He’s equal parts poet, bluesman, singer, songwriter, entertainer, troubadour, but he’s entirely my friend and my hero,” Church said.
